On the Morality of Gender Pronoun Usage Gender, if it means anything, is rooted in sex; a man is someone who is by nature ordered towards insemination, a woman one who is by nature ordered towards conception; gender is simply the psychological and sociological outworking of sex, so that all males are men, and all females are woman. Typically this is evident from one's primary and secondary sexual characteristics, though genetic and developmental defects may prevent this, and make it more difficult to discern someone's sex, and so someone's gender, but there is arguably always going to be a hint in the body indicating the person's nature; such as having xx or xy chromosomes, or if one has chromosomal abnormality, a more certain test would be the presence or absence of the SRY gene, which while typically in the Y chromosome, can appear in the x chromosome, and so can be a biological marker of one's sex, and so in turn, of gender.
