On the Morality of Gender Pronoun Usage
Gender, if it means anything, is rooted in sex; a man is someone who is by nature ordered towards insemination, a woman one who is by nature ordered towards conception; gender is simply the psychological and sociological outworking of sex, so that all males are men, and all females are woman.
Typically this is evident from one's primary and secondary sexual characteristics, though genetic and developmental defects may prevent this, and make it more difficult to discern someone's sex, and so someone's gender, but there is arguably always going to be a hint in the body indicating the person's nature; such as having xx or xy chromosomes, or if one has chromosomal abnormality, a more certain test would be the presence or absence of the SRY gene, which while typically in the Y chromosome, can appear in the x chromosome, and so can be a biological marker of one's sex, and so in turn, of gender.
(If (somehow) the SRY gene shows itself insufficient as a test for sex, this does not mean that gender is not rooted in sex, nor that gender or sex is non-binary or fluid, but merely that we need more biological knowledge to find a better test; but as things stand, there is no evident problem with using hte SRY-gene as a final and certain determinant of sex, and so, of gender.)
In light of this, it is clear that trans-individuals are not the gender they identify as, nor are intersex individuals freed to determine their gender at whim, gender, being rooted in sex, is an objective aspect of one's being, it is something discovered, not invented; and it is discovered not through introspection upon one's feelings, but extrospection upon one's body; for gender is spiritual, having to do with how the mind relates to the body, and how this inter-relation works out in our social reality, and as I've been told Pope St. John Paul II taught, "the body and the body alone can make visible things invisible; the spiritual and the divine"; so that the body and the body alone can inform us about our gender, specifically through our sex; and one need not rely on the authority of the good saint to see this, it is an implication of the very concept of gender as the psychological and social outworking of sex.
In turn then, because gender is determined by sex, and sex is known through the body; then it is not morally acceptable to use the pronouns people desire to employ, when those pronouns are contrary to the sex we know their body shows them to have; for in such a case, we are lying about who they are, and cooperating with the way the world is aiming to deceive such people about who they are, and leading such people to deceive themselves about who they really are.
Lying is a grave sin, it perverts the purpose of language, which is to convey the truth; it is through truth and knowledge that people are empowered to live the good lives they are meant to live, through error they are made less than their best selves, and deceived into doing grave evils unawares; all men are obliged to do good and avoid evil, and so to seek truth and avoid falsehood, since it is falsehood which fools us into thinking evil good and good evil, and so leads us to do evil rather than good, and avoid good rather than evil; in the light of truth however, we see things as they are, good as good, and evil as evil, and so can avoid evil and do good; as social animals, we cannot do this alone, but require the aid of others, and so must have faith in them, and language is a great means by which others aid us; but when we lie, we do not help each other to the truth and away from error, but hinder each other from achieving the truth and avoiding error, and so in turn, we hinder each other from avoiding evil and doing good, and may even incline each other to do evil and avoid doing good; we betray their faith in us, and this is a grave thing to do; so that lying is never permissible under any circumstance; no matter how pressured we may be by our peers, superiors, or subordinates to do so.
Here then is me trying to use truthful language to help you to stop doing this evil, and so to stop leading others into sin; you are informed, and so may better do good yourself, and be your best self, if my words are true, then in accepting them, you are improved, and I have done you a service; however, with knowledge comes power, and with power comes responsibility, if my words are true, and you see this, but you who had in the past supported this deception do not change your ways in light of them, then you are in a far worse state then you were before, it is my hope that you will amend yourself, to seek truth and do good as all men are obliged, but should you persist in error and do evil by continuing to cooperate with this great deception, then God will be your judge, and even if you do not believe in God, it is clear enough that history and your own conscience will surely judge you as well.
